Bruce Munro Wright

Bruce Munro Wright is active in the arts and not-for-profit sectors in British Columbia, Ontario and nationally as trustee, philanthropist, panelist, fundraiser, speaker, jurist and committee member.
He is a past Chair of Vancouver Opera and its Foundation and has been active with Opera America and Opera.ca as panelist, member of the trustee forum and donor.  In 2017 he received the National Opera Directors Emeritus Award from Opera.ca at the awards in New York City.
Bruce is a past Chair of Vancouver Art Gallery and now chairs it’s Foundation. He has co-chaired the VAG’s bi-annual Gala Art Auction three times, each time raising more than $1 million.  
As a current trustee of Vancouver’s Arts Umbrella, the arts training enterprise serving more than 20,000 students annually, he has Co-Chaired Splash, the annual Art Auction and Gala, three times, the latest of which in 2019 raised $1.1 million.
Bruce is President of Health Arts Society (Concerts in Care) in BC and is past-President of Concerts in Care Ontario. He serves on the boards of the sister provincial societies comprising Concerts in Care which have collectively provided more than 14,000 concerts by paid professional symphony musicians, opera singers and other performers to people in care throughout Canada.
Bruce is Vice-Chair of Pride in Art Society which runs Vancouver’s  SUM Gallery and the annual Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver. He also serves on the board of Ballet British Columbia, one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies and on the national board of the LORAN Foundation and the B. C. Board of Nature Conservancy. Bruce recently completed a ten-year term as trustee at Frontier College, the Toronto-based national literacy organization that has been providing literacy programming since the late 1800’s on a national platform. During this time he served as Chair of the College and of its Foundation.
Bruce is a lawyer and was, until recently, managing partner of the west coast office of Goodman’s LLP (later MLT Aikins LLP) for most of his career. He was recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading lawyer in corporate, securities and M&A law, and 2018 Lawyer of the Year in natural resources law.  He has a B.Comm from University of Toronto, an LLB from Osgoode Hall and an MBA from London Business School. He holds the ICD designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.  He also has ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano and french horn performance.
