Advocacy News
On Friday, March 25th, Parliament fell after a historic vote expressing non-confidence in the federal Conservative government for contempt charges, setting the stage for a federal election on May 2, 2011.
Prior to the non-confidence vote, all three parties promised to reject the Conservative budget presented on March 22, called A Low-tax Plan for Jobs and Growth, but in the end it was the contempt charges that unraveled Parliament last Friday.
With a federal election now underway, Opera.ca has joined forces with others, coordinating its advocacy efforts with that of the Canadian Arts Coalition to ensure that support for the arts by all parties is a prominent issue for Canadians throughout the election campaign.
The Canadian Arts Coalition website will be your destination for key messages, election tool kits, door-step questions, compelling arts facts, and links to relevant local, provincial and national resources.
