Opera.ca Holds Annual General Meeting
At its Annual General Meeting of Members on Tuesday 18 October, Opera.ca released its new strategic plan, Relevance and Resilience 2012 -2015, endorsed by and voted into effect by members.
Also at the meeting, Opera.ca announced a small operating surplus of $5,175 for its year ending June 30 2011.
Members accepted the Nominations Report welcoming two new board members, Patrick Corrigan, Executive Director of Pacific Opera Victoria and Tom Wright, Director of Artistic Planning for Vancouver Opera.
Opera.ca bid farewell and recognized the contributions of retiring members W. R. (Bob) McPhee and Wendy Nielsen who stepped down from the board at this meeting.

Arts Day on the Hill
October 25th was Arts Day on the Hill, an initiative of the Canadian Arts Coalition. Over one hundred arts leaders, from across Canada and representing a range of artistic organizations and disciplines, met with nearly 120 Members of Parliament throughout the day. Topics of discussion included the importance of federal support for the arts, and in particular, the CAC’s recommendations for the 2012 budget.
The day concluded with a festive reception for MPs and the arts community, co-hosted by Deputy Speaker Denise Savoie. Read more about Arts Day on the Hill here.

Opera.ca Launches Aeroplan Campaign
This November, Donate Your Aeroplan Miles to Opera.ca
During the month of November, Aeroplan will facilitate the transfer of Aeroplan miles to support Opera.ca. Donated miles will directly support Opera.ca’s Travel Support Program which allows us to bring field experts and keynote speakers to Opera.ca meetings and conferences, and fund travel to sector meetings that serve the organization.

Focus on Canadian Opera Creation
November 10, 2011 is the world premiere of Mary’s Wedding (MacDonald/Massicotte), a new opera commissioned and developed by Pacific Opera Victoria. Mary's Wedding is a love letter to the power of memory and innocence, and to a generation of Canadians who were caught in the crucible of the First World War. Ontario Arts Council
On October 13, the Ontario Arts Council presented the results of the Ontario Arts Engagement Study - a province-wide survey, conducted by leading arts researcher Alan Brown, of WolfBrown, of how Ontarians participate in the arts. The final word on the presentation? “95% of Ontarians said they would like to be doing more arts activities than they are doing now.” To read the full report, click here.

OPERA America News
National Opera Center Reservations Now Open
OPERA America is currently constructing the first-ever National Opera Center, designed to deliver an array of services to members that has never before been available under a single roof in a purpose-built facility. Reservations for the acoustically excellent Audition/Recital Hall and large, versatile Rehearsal Hall are now being accepted from Professional Company Members for all dates in September (Preview Month) and October 2012. The Official Grand Opening of the National Opera Center will take place on Friday, September 21, 2012.
Reservation requests are accepted on a rolling basis. As Professional Company Members have exclusive access to these spaces at this time, please note that you must be logged into the OPERA America site to submit a reservation request.
