Four Performances of Mishabooz's Realm

Mishaabooz’s Realm is a new work by Cree composer Andrew Balfour, inspired by Indigenous stories, and bringing together singers and musicians from the world of opera and the First Nations. An opportunity for dialogue around the process of reconciliation, this is a coproduction between Highlands Opera Studio and Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal.
Performances take place on December 15 and 16 at UQÀM’s Studio-théâtre Alfred Lalibertéin Montrél. 
The production returns to Haliburton for performances on December 21 and 22 at the Northern Lights Performing Arts Pavilion.

New Opera about WWI Nurses Aboard Doomed Hospital Ship

Librettist Paul Ciufo and composer Stephanie Martin are working on a new opera about the tragic sinking of the Canadian hospital ship HMHS Llandovery Castle, considered one of the worst atrocities committed against Canada during WWI. The opera will focus on the 14 nurses who were killed during the sinking of the ship and is set to premiere in June 2018, in time for the centennial anniversary of the event.
