Opera.ca’s current strategic plan, Charting our Civic Impact, articulates one key goal: to lay the groundwork for increasing opera’s civic impact.  Opera.ca is addressing this goal by developing resources for the opera sector including guides to civic practice, a common vocabulary, and in 2018/19 providing targeted micro-funding for prototyping civic impact activities. The Newfoundland Opera Colloquium is another key part of achieving our goal, and is a pre-requisite to a successful future civic impact funding request.

Through attending the Colloquium, you will explore tools, practices and protocols to deepen civic engagement, and provide possible solution to the question: What role can opera play in civic impact and social change?

Our host, Cheryl Hickman Artistic Director, Opera on the Avalon welcome you to this important gathering to lead the sector in innovative thought and practice around artists, opera companies and communities working together to build civic health.

Who should attend?

  • Opera company General Directors and Artistic Directors
  • Audience and Community Engagement Staff
  • Creative personnel, composers, librettists, directors, designers
  • Board members

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will learn, develop and apply deep listening skills, tools, strategies and approaches for designing impactful and successful civic impact activities that can then be applied in the context of their own communities upon their return.

Impact

As a result of attending the Opera Colloquium and accessing the subsequent funding available from Opera.ca, opera companies across Canada will be better equipped and resourced for developing a range of successful civic impact activities that will contribute to Opera.ca’s collective mission of making opera central to Canadian life.
