2018 Dora Award Nominees Announced!

Congratulations to all the 2018 Dora Award Nominees! In the opera division, Tapestry Opera leads with 18 nominations, 10 for The Overcoat (co-production with Vancouver Opera and Canadian Stage), 7 for Oksana G, and 1 for Bandits in the Valley. Against the Grain Theatre follows closely with 12 nominations, 9 for Orphée+ and 3 for La Bohème. Canadian Opera Company received 10 nominations, 5 for The Elixir of Love, 2 for Rigoletto, and 1 each for Anna Bolena and Arabella.

The 39th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards will celebrate the best in Toronto Theatre, Dance, and Opera on Monday, June 25, 2018 at an awards gala hosted by Astrid Van Wieren.
 

Opera Atelier Partners with Mirvish Productions

Opera Atelier has just announced a partnership with Mirvish Productions. The partnership builds on a history of collaboration between the two organizations and includes reciprocal promotional support. Opera Atelier productions will also move to the Ed Mirvish Theatre in 2019. The venue change offers Opera Atelier excellent acoustics, a much-needed larger stage, more ticket inventory, and access to Mirvish’s marketing power.
 

Opera this Summer at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity

June and July will be very operatic at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The centre’s Opera in The 21st Century program is a 5 week intensive residency that includes cutting edge performances, collaborations, and boundary-pushing multidisciplinary experiments. Led by visionary artistic director Joel Ivany, the residency culminates in two major performances at Banff Centre: Orphée+ and Candide.
