Alexander Neef Appointed Artistic Director of Santa Fe Opera

Canadian Opera Company General Director Alexander Neef was named Artistic Director of Santa Fe Opera by incoming SFO General Director Robert K. Meya, effective October 1, 2018. This is a newly created seasonal role in Santa Fe that will complement Neef’s current position as COC General Director. The announcement followed Meya’s own appointment this morning by the SFO Board of Directors, along with English conductor Harry Bicket as Music Director.

Canadian Grammy Award Winner!

Congratulations to soprano Barbara Hannigan who won a Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. Her album, Crazy Girl Crazy features the music of Gershwin, Berg & Berio.

International Opera Awards: Canadian Finalists

Congratulations to the five Canadian finalists nominated for International Opera Awards. The Canadian nominees are: 
Barbara Hannigan (soprano) – Female Singer
Jordan de Souza (conductor) – Newcomer
Echo by Joyce El-Khoury (soprano) – Recording (solo recital)
Gordon Bintner (baritone) – Young Singer
Wallis Giunta (mezzo-sporano) – Young Singer
The awards will be presented on April 9, 2018 in London, England.

2018 Juno Nominations

Congratulations to all the 2018 Juno Nominees! Of note: Nominees in the Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral category include: Crazy Girl Crazy (Barbara Hannigan with Ludwig Orchestra), The Tree of Life (Daniel Taylor with The Trinity Choir), In the Stream of Life: Songs by Sibelius (Gerald Finley with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra), Schubert Sessions: Lieder with Guitar (Philippe Sly & John Charles Britton). Congratulations to composer James Rolfe who has been nominated for Classical Composition of the Year for his work Breathe.
The Juno Awards take place in Vancouver on March 25, 2018.
