Cheryl Hickman Celebrates 10 years at the Helm of Opera on the Avalon

Cheryl Hickman, General and Artistic Director of Opera on the Avalon (Newfoundland), celebrates her 10th anniversary in 2019, a company she founded in 2009. She has been the Artistic Director since its inception and took on the role of General Director in 2014. She established OOTA’s Creation Investment Fund, which resulted in Atlantic Canada’s first grand opera commission, that helped OOTA to win numerous awards, including BMO/ Arts NL Artist of the year in 2017.

POV’s Rebecca Hass wins Community Leadership Award

Congratulations to Rebecca Hass of Pacific Opera Victoria on winning the 2019 Victoria Community Leadership Award for Arts & Culture. Leadership Victoria celebrates community leaders and recognizes those who have made a lasting contribution to the Greater Victoria communities. Liz Upchurch Celebrates 20 Years with COC

Congratulations to Liz Upchurch, Head of the COC Ensemble Studio, on her 20 year anniversary with the Canadian Opera Company. Since joining the COC, she has helped build the Ensemble Studio into one of the industry’s most innovative and comprehensive opera training programs. The anniversary was marked by a special performance in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre on May 7, 2019. (Learn more)

In Memoriam: Roger D. Moore

Philanthropist, Roger D. Moore, passed away on March 21, 2019 at the age of 79. A beloved figure within the Canadian classical world, he was committed to supporting new music and opera. Moore’s passion for music found expression in his consistent and enthusiastic support of numerous Toronto cultural organizations, including the now-defunct Queen of Puddings and Toronto Masque Theatre, as well as The Music Gallery, Tapestry Opera, and the Canadian Opera Company. The Roger D. Moore Distinguished Visitor in Composition section of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music’s New Music Festival supported residencies by a range of internationally renowned composers. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he has been honoured with the Roy Thomson Hall Award of Recognition (2002), University of Toronto Arbor Award (2009), and an Opera Canada Ruby (2010). Dean Artists – Retirement and Additions

For twenty-five years, Carrol Anne Curry has been the guiding force behind Dean Artists Management. Ms. Curry has announced her retirement after a long and very successful career. Dean Artists has announced the addition of Graham Cozzubbo and Topher Mokrzewski to the artists management team to continue the company’s success. The company has made a number of other staffing changes as Paul Johnson will also be retiring, and Zoe Band will be joining the team at Harrison Parrott. We wish Carrol Anne all the best in her retirement and look forward to working with the new team at Dean Artists.
