Contract Project Manager – Digital
 
It’s an exciting time to join the team at Opera.ca!
We are about to embark on a transformative multi-phase Digital Strategy Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to digitize the Opera Civic Impact Framework, turning it into a platform for impact collecting and reporting, to translate arts impacts into non-arts outcomes (such as Canadian Index of Well-Being and as UN Sustainable Development Goals) using a subfield of AI called knowledge representation, and to scale the framework beyond opera to establish an Arts Impact Kernel. Key project service providers include SAMETRICA, Good Roots Consulting and scaling project partner, Mass Culture.
We are seeking a contract freelance Project Manager to oversee the project, and to ensure it stays on time and on budget.  The Project Manager reports to the Executive Director of Opera.ca
 
Responsibilities:
  • Attend project meetings and briefing, weekly in the beginning, to bi-weekly later in the project
  • Understand the full project outline, key deliverables, budget and timeline
  • Design the full project management outline and management schema
  • Liaise with the SAMETRICA Project Manager on their deliverables
  • Liaise with Good Roots Consulting on their deliverables
  • Trouble-shoot problems and bring to the attention of ED in a timely manner
  • Monitor and track budgets and expenditures
  • Sign off on invoices to ED for approval once key deliverables are achieved
  • Write and file Project Reports
Attributes
As a freelance Project Manager, you pride yourself on being more than a messenger or conduit between parties, and more than the keeper of critical paths and budgets. You are a distiller of ideas and concepts, and are able to translate them fluidly to a variety of people in different roles. You do not fear the unknown and are energized by working on the frontiers of the new and the possible. You possess excellent communication skills and are able to liaise with and manage strong client/vendor/partner relationships.  You value the importance of good documentation and detailed record-keeping. You are versatile, have a roll up your sleeves approach, and can roll with the inevitable changes inherent in any large project with grace, patience and humour.
Requirements:
  • Project Management certification required (e.g. PMP, Agile, or 6 Sigma)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in project management
  • Understanding of evaluation, research and impact measurement
  • Experience with technology and digital development process an asset
  • Ability to translate technical language into layman’s terms and vice versa
  • Strong budgeting skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented but also able to see big picture
  • Strong suite of soft skills including superior written and interpersonal communications, tact, diplomacy, facilitative nature
Fee and Time Commitment:
$50/hour plus HST, approximately 750 hours over 24 months, approximately 8 hours a week, more in the beginning, less over time.
