We're Hiring - General Administrator

It’s an exciting time to join Opera.ca, the national arts service organization for opera in Canada as it seeks to fill a new full-time position of General Administrator. Headquartered in Toronto, the General Administrator will be the administrative hub for the association, managing communications, membership, programs and providing support for several new, large scale initiatives that will contribute to the depth and impact of the association and its membership. 2020 is our 20th Anniversary and we are marking the occasion with a re-brand, website and promotional campaign. We have recently expanded our annual programming to include Education and Artist Training Summit and upcoming Fellowship program; we recently launched the Opera Civic Impact Framework, and received a transformative digital strategy grant to digitize the framework for the collection and reporting of data, as well as the translation of arts results into broader societal outcomes. By the end of this year, we will have articulated the new strategic goals that will guide the sector towards greater resiliency in a post-pandemic world.
 
Reporting to the Executive Director of Opera.ca, the General Administrator will be responsible for communications planning, membership development, and for providing a strong support and management function to all overall programs, meetings and services of Opera.ca.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
 
Communications and Membership
  • Developing and executing an annual Communications Plan, including website updating, press releases, social media.
  • Overseeing the social media team
  • Overseeing membership campaigns, including managing the renewal, invoicing, collection of membership dues from members and other members, payment processing and new member recruitment through our CRM.
  • Maintenance of the membership database.
Administration, Program and Services Support
  • Managing office systems including computer, telephone, software, IT, mail/courier, filing/archiving
  • Book-keeping preparation (coding payables, deposits, receivables, bank reconciliations, deposits, audit prep)
  • Organizational and logistical support for all Opera.ca meetings, summits, teleconference calls conferences, programs and member services.
  • Assisting in grant applications, fundraising, and sponsorships.
  • Supervising interns, co-op students and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director from time to time
Requirements:
  • A University degree or college diploma, with a preference of study in opera, performing arts or arts administration.
  • Knowledge and experience of membership management and CRMs
  • Experience in Communications planning and execution
  • Experience in social media campaigns and website platforms like Wordpress.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and in a variety of styles;
  • Excellent computer skills in Office365 as well as Google Suites.
  • Ability to work from home or dedicated home office environment
  • Be self-directed, self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and key deliverables.
  • Have strong planning skills but also be flexible and adaptable to rapid, changing circumstances.
  • Ease and comfort working from home as part of a remote workforce until COVID19 re-openings allow for safe gatherings in a common workspace.
  • An ability to understand, and communicate in French is desired
Location
To ensure a safe working environment during COVID19, and to maintain physical distancing, this position will be a work-from-home, remote position in the beginning, moving to 401 Richmond Street West, Suite 350 when current public safety guidelines allow.

Allowances
Opera.ca provides a company laptop and printer, access to a cloud-based server, email, Office 365, CRM, soft phone extension (to be forwarded to a mobile or landline), zoom teleconferencing, and a $50/mnth allowance towards cellular and internet connectivity.
 
Compensation
$45,000 per annum, plus health benefits. This is a one year renewable contract dependent on funding.
