Montreal born soprano Chantal Lambert is a graduate with great distinction of the Québec Conservatory of Music in Montreal, having been unanimously awarded the first prize for interpretation, mentored by tenor André Turp and vocal coach Janine Lachance. She then benefited from a three-year apprenticeship with the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, where she studied with great teachers and artists and made her professional debut as Métella in La Vie parisienne (company Les Nouvelles Variétés Lyriques).
In 2016, she celebrated 25 years at the helm of this Opéra de Montréal Young Artist Program, which was once her own Alma Mater and was inducted in the Panthéon canadien de l’Art lyrique (Canadian Opera Hall of Fame). During is tribute, the Montréal Opera Artistic Director Michel Beaulac said about her: “One must write ARTIST in capital letters when referring to Chantal Lambert. Her professionalism, her dedication to music are exemplary and have literally changed the lives of hundreds of young artists and also privileged colleagues like myself. Yes, one must write ARTIST with the all the colors of the spectrum because of her immense love for music and art in all its forms; because of her fathomless faith in others, and in their dreams, because Chantal the believer, Chantal the dreamer, tirelessly keeps on looking for “that rainbow connection”. Her path both impressive and eclectic, is made of professionalism, rigor, passion, involvement, and authenticity, and is admired by all those who met her and worked with her.”
All through those 25 years, Chantal Lambert continued to perform as a singer. She sang many important roles on the Opera de Montreal scene : such as the title-role in La Belle Hélène and a Elle in Poulenc’s La Voix humaine. As a concert performer she often was guest artist with l’Orchestre Métropolitain, I Musici and with the Orchestre baroque de Montréal. Recitals also were part of her career for the past 17 years. While enjoying a career that has seen her appear in 16 productions with the Opéra de Montréal, she is also held in high regard for contributing to the training of new generations of young opera artists.
Praised for her natural gift for communication, her knowledge of the art form and its demands, her generosity and profound humanity, Ms. Lambert often acts as a host and presenter at numerous concerts, and several summer programs also rely on her expertise in the areas of performance, operatic diction, and career development (i.e.: Orford Arts Centre, Canadian Operatic Arts Academy, Highlands Opera Studio). She is the co-author of linguistic guides (English, Italian, and German glossaries) for opera artists, and was the president of the Conseil québécois de la musique from 2008 to 2011.
