World Opera Day: Opera Connects

Get ready to celebrate World Opera Day on Sunday, October 25, 2026! This year’s theme, Opera Connects, celebrates opera’s power to bring people together across borders, languages, and cultures. Here in Canada, these connections take many forms, from collaborations across regions and communities to the stories we share on our stages and the audiences who come together through opera.

How You Can Celebrate

Professional Company Members & Opera Organizations:
We invite our Professional Company Members to write a letter to their federal Member of Parliament (MP) highlighting opera’s impact in their communities (find your MP). Share how your company brings people together through performances, education, and community programs, while supporting artists and local jobs. You can also spotlight a co-production, international partnership, or community program, or host an open rehearsal, tour, or conversation. Don’t forget to register your planned activities to help map celebrations worldwide!

Artists & Emerging Artists:
Share a moment when opera created a connection in your career through a role, collaboration, mentor, training opportunity, or experience working in another community or country.

Opera Professionals:
Take audiences behind the scenes! Show how your work in production, design, administration, communications, fundraising, and beyond connects artists, colleagues, and communities.

Educators & Community Groups:
Introduce someone to opera through a listening session, workshop, school or community activity, or artist conversation that sparks curiosity and creates new connections.

Opera Lovers & Audiences:
Share a memorable performance, an artist who inspired you, or an opera that introduced you to another culture. Invite someone to discover opera with you!

Share Your Story on Socials!

On October 25, share your stories, activities, and videos using #WorldOperaDay and #OperaConnects, and tag AOC so we can help amplify celebrations across Canada. Also, follow @WorldOperaDay on Instagram and Facebook!
