Backstage at Carnegie Hall: an opera about racism and the electric guitar

Music by Tim Brady | Libretto by Audrey Dwyer

Montreal-based Bradyworks has partnered with Chants libres and Le Vivier to present the world premiere of an electric guitar-inspired opera Backstage at Carnegie Hall.

The show features music by Tim Brady and libretto by Audrey Dwyer, exploring the topic of racism through the story of jazz guitarist Charlie Christian, just before his historic 1939 performance with Benny Goodman.

The multiracial work examines the revolutionary moments between a Black musician and a white clarinetist that took place during one of the greatest eras in jazz music.
